Bangor Counseling Center
In 1997, Dr. Briggs founded Bangor Counseling Center (as a private practice) in his home in Bangor, Maine at 532 Union Street (see top three photos on right). Shortly thereafter, Dr. Briggs gave (n/f) Cornerstone, Inc. (CI), another non-profit program founded by Dr. Briggs, permission to use the name "Bangor Counseling Center" (BCC) but CI did not advance the program. Therefore, late in 1998, Dr. Briggs made BCC a d/b/a of NLM* and changed NLM's constitutional Purpose to more closely align with this new direction.
NLM/BCC continued to lease Dr. Briggs' 532 Union Street property for several years until growth prohibited its further use. In October of 2000 Dr. Briggs becamse BCC's first paid President & CEO. In 2002 NLM/BCC relocated its corporate offices to a larger facility that Dr. Briggs discovered downtown Bangor. He placed a deposit on it and solicited a co-buyer (Dr. Oliver) to purchase the property so BCC could lease a much larger facility.

The Move
The new planned location at 202 Exchange Street in Bangor, Maine was approximately 10,000 sq ft. (see bottom three photos on the right) and was in need of serious rennovations before the building could be usable. Therefore, Dr. Briggs spent the next six months, through his company, Briggs Ultd., removing over 100 cubic yards of debris from gutting the first floor. Briggs Ultd. then began constructing brand new offices on the first floor. Finally, BCC was ready for the move, where it still remains to this day. Prior to the end of Dr. Briggs' tenure, BCC continued to expand through out the building eventually utilizing all three floors.
During Dr. Briggs' tenure, he developed BCC into the largest Behavioral Health program in the city and state. It grew from zero employees in mid-2000 to over 140 employees by the end of 2005 with two additional branch offices (Ellsworth and Waterville). By the end of 2005 BCC was delivering approximately 70,000 treatment hours per year all combined.
NLM*, which BCC was a d/b/a of, was an affiliate member of World Christian Ministries Association (WCMA-Maine) from 1993 until 2006 and BCC was also an affiliate member of WCMA (Maine) from 1997 to 2006 until Dr. Briggs left the organizations in 2006.

Dr. Briggs now focuses most of his attention on World Christian Ministries Association, Aletheia Logos University, and Institute for Briggs' Theocentric Psychology .
During Dr. Briggs' tenure, he solicited and invited Rev. Byron Lyons (a Canadian WCMA ordained minister at the time), to move to the USA, under the auspices of WCMA, to work at BCC as a counselor. This was two years after Rev. Lyons had already been invited by Dr. Briggs to become NLM's second Board Chairman, since Dr. Briggs had become a compensated employee of NLM/BCC in October 2000 and thus had to resign in 2001 from being NLM/BCC's Board Chairman. He also invited Ruth Sawler and Dr. Oliver (a WCMA member at the time) to be on its Board until Dr. Oliver also became a compensated employee of NLM/BCC and was thus replaced. He also acted as NLM's Treasurer until Dr. Briggs appointed Beth Young as NLM/BCC's new Secretary/Treasurer in early 2005.

* Diane Murray, Dr. Briggs' oldest sister, incorporated NLM in September 1989 as a Soup Kitchen to help the poor and needy in the Belfast, Maine area. Dr. Briggs was on NLM's first board and continued on its board until he resigned in 2001 because he became BCC/NLM's first compensated President & CEO. Dr. Briggs was the Chairman of the board from around 1990 until 2001 and acted as a non-paid President & CEO until October 2000.
